What Is Algebra?

Definition:

Algebra is a branch of mathematics in which we use symbols (usually letters) to represent unknown or variable quantities, and then manipulate these symbols using arithmetic operations (like +, –, ×, ÷) to express relationships, solve problems, or model real-world situations. ([Cuemath][1])

Example:

Suppose you don’t know a number but call it (x). Then “five more than that number” can be written as (x + 5).
